Discussions: Adding files, links and pictures

You can upload a file as part of a post. At the bottom of post areas, you will see three buttons: add file, add link,, and post picture. To add a file to a post, press add file. You will get a new box with a Browse... button.

Press the Browse button and you will get a standard File Upload box. The exact look of the box will depend on the operating system you are using, but the underlying function of selecting a file from your local system and uploading it to the Kiva is the same. Navigate to the file you want to include and select it.

You will see the file in the browse box and the complete file path in orange on the right. Be sure that you do not click in the box -- if the file path is not the browse box, your file will not be uploaded. Also, do not move the file until after you have made the post. Your file is uploaded from your local system to the Kiva database until when you press the post button.

If you want to add another file, press the add file button again, and another Browse button will appear. You can add as many files and URLs (see the next section) as you want.

Including a URL

You can include links in your posts. If you click the add link button at the bottom of a post area, you will get two boxes: one for the URL itself and another for the title of the link.

In the example below, I have entered the URL for CMU. In the Link Title box, I have entered the text "CMU's home page"

Note:Adding a link puts a link to the URL that you enter. The Kiva does not check if the URL is valid and doesn't cache the page.

Posting a picture

You can post an image to the Kiva two different ways. One way is just to upload the image file using the add file button. You can also post a picture that will show up within the post.

If you select the post picture button, you will get a file upload box. Browse to the image that you want to post and select it. The screen dump below shows 3 formats (png, gif, and jpg) of the same image being uploaded to the Kiva. The Kiva puts the image in the post and also uploads the file.
